Prince William County to Host Virtual Trainings on Gambling and Violence Awareness

single news

Prince William County is offering free virtual training sessions this October to raise awareness about problem gambling and its connection to violence in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The trainings, hosted by the Office of Community Safety and Prince William Community Services, are open to professionals and community members and encourage informed discussion about issues that are often hidden or underreported.

With changes in gambling laws, increasing popularity in sports betting and the recent opening of a casino in our region, the need for education around gambling risks has grown. Problem gambling affects not only the individuals but also families and communities. These sessions will explore those impacts, especially the links to violence, and considerations across diverse populations.

“Problem gambling is an easily overlooked issue in our community. We have not traditionally had open access to it in the ways that we do now and at the click of a button. For that reason, we need to elevate the awareness of the dangers that gambling can present,” said Rachel Taylor, Domestic Violence Coordinated Response Analyst with the Office of Community Safety.

Register today to learn more about the effects of gambling and the ways in which it impacts our community.
