Solid Waste Services and Facility Amenities

Solid Waste Fee provides great value to Prince William residents
Solid Waste Management is the division of Public Works responsible for the operation of the landfill, trash disposal, recycling, composting, household hazardous waste collection, and environmental controls to safeguard the community.
The Solid Waste Fee is a part of the Prince William County real estate property tax bill. Property owners in the County are assessed annually, and the fee is divided in half for payment on the July, and the December tax bills, or it is paid via mortgage escrow. The fee amount for a residential dwelling is based on the dwelling type, such as single-family home, town home, mobile home, or condominium/apartment. A commercial/business property solid waste fee is determined based on its square footage and business type, or actual waste generation.
The solid waste fee revenue funds waste management, landfill operations, trash disposal, composting, and recycling operations, and future landfill cell construction.

Residents’ Convenience Centers
The Convenience Centers are located at the Prince William County Landfill, 14811 Dumfries, Road, Manassas and the Compost Facility, 13000 Hansen Farm Road, Manassas. Both facilities are open every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At the Convenience Centers both locations offer waste disposal, single stream recycling, cardboard compactors, clothing and textile donation bins, household battery and automotive recycling, used motor oil, oil filters and antifreeze recycling, yard waste and metal recycling bins. Residents may also bring tires (four/month), old appliances, limited amounts (2.5 cubic yards) of construction and demolition debris) and more. For details on item limits and how to properly dispose of more 300 items, visit the Solid Waste A to Z Disposal Guide.
The solid waste fee does not include collections. Collection service is provided by private companies, permitted by the county. Residents, HOA’s and businesses may contract with these companies directly. The haulers bring the collected waste material to the landfill for disposal, the collected yard waste to the Compost Facility for composting or mulching and the collected recyclable materials are taken to material recovery facilities operated by private companies.
Residents and businesses in the cities or towns do not pay the solid fee. To use the landfill or compost facility they must pay a fee for each visit to dispose of waste and recycling. Some services, such as household hazardous waste and electronics recycling, are not available to them.
