Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the exploitation of a person for labor, services, or commercial sex through force, fraud, or coercion. It can affect adults and children of any age, gender, or background. Trafficking often occurs in ways that are hidden in plain sight—through abusive relationships, fraudulent job offers, manipulation, or threats. It is both a crime and a public safety issue that requires a coordinated, community-wide response.
The Office of Community Safety (OCS) leads Prince William County’s coordinated response to human trafficking and serves as Chair of the Greater Prince William Human Trafficking Taskforce and multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
Greater Prince William Human Trafficking Taskforce
The Greater Prince William Human Trafficking Taskforce is an interagency partnership serving Greater Prince William County, including the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Established circa 2010, the Taskforce brings together schools, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, social services, probation and juvenile justice, healthcare providers, victim advocacy organizations, and state and federal partners to coordinate a unified response to human trafficking.
The mission of the Taskforce is to serve as an educational and networking resource to advocate for, identify, and support victims and survivors of human trafficking. Core members of the Taskforce also operate a multidisciplinary team (MDT) through a signed interagency agreement. The MDT provides trauma-informed, victim-centered services that address safety, medical, therapeutic, and basic needs while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
By leveraging shared resources, analyzing county-level data, and formalizing coordination across agencies, the Taskforce strengthens prevention efforts, improves identification, and builds a more collaborative community response to human trafficking.
