SHOES

  • It is best to go to a store and try shoes on. Ordering shoes online can be tricky as you can't try them on.
  • Please do not purchase dance shoes from a retail store. They are not the proper shoe for the dancer or the floor surface.
  • Do not purchase satin ballet shoes; only leather or canvas ballet slippers.
  • The online store (Discount Dance) is the best deal. The only issue is that if you do not know your shoe size, it might be tricky to pick the correct shoe.
  • For Tap: online purchase is fine. The shoe is not as form fitting as jazz or ballet, so it is acceptable to buy online without fitting.
  • Do not buy shoes one size too large so that your child can "grow into them".
  • The drawstrings on the ballet slippers (the strings at the front)- MUST BE KNOTTED, TIED AND SNIPPED OFF. The strings are functional and not a decoration. If the strings come undone, and you lose them, the shoe is still functional. The strings come undone in class, and they present a tripping hazard.
