Historic Programs and Events to Check Out this Fall – Staff Picks!

Looking to explore Prince William County’s rich history this fall? The Office of Historic Preservation has a full lineup of programs and events offering something for everyone—from lecture series and historic bus tours to guided tours of the County’s historic sites and more. Whether you’re a long-time local or new to the area, there are plenty of ways to learn about the people, places and stories that have shaped our community. Not sure where to start? We asked some of our Historic Preservation staff for their recommendations—take a look below.

"Visit Rippon Lodge Historic Site during December for their "Holidays through the Ages" tours. Visitors travel back in time to explore and view the evolution of seasonal celebrations over several centuries.  After a nice meal, come back to the area to see the "Holiday Lights at Neabsco Creek Boardwalk". "The annual Bristoe Station Luminary is an excellent way to spend a fall evening. Walk a battlefield at dark lit up by about 1,000 luminaries, learn some history, and get in some exercise. Looking for more? Come join us on the weekend of October 10 & 11 to commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the Battle of Bristoe Station; or if you're a true crime buff join us for a free lecture on 1950s true crime on November 19, 7 pm at Occoquan Town Hall. And be sure to check out the Brentsville Bluegrass Concert on September 26 for an evening of some music and fun at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre.
