How Recycling Can Upgrade Your Next Social Event

single news

Go green and upgrade that next social event by offering guests single-stream recyclables, glass, and food scrap containers as an alternative to the typical fly-infested trash can.

Event planners or hosts can include recycling receptacles to ensure guests have a great time and a favorable impression of the next event, party, or meeting.

Prince William County Solid Waste Management Division makes recycling easy by offering free recycling bins and bags designed for special events in Prince William County. The containers are available for loan to community groups and non-profit organizations on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge for this service.

While recycling is mandatory in the County and many surrounding jurisdictions, it can save valuable resources, reduce the amount of landfill material, and ultimately help extend the longevity of the County Landfill.

Simply recycling plastic bottles and aluminum drink cans at events can make a huge difference. Event planners and partygoers can go the extra mile by utilizing compostable plates, napkins, and utensils and separating food scraps from non-recyclable waste. Order a Compost Bin

Whether the special event is inside or outside the County, recycling receptacles should be present, clearly marked, and co-located with the trash containers. Consider using the A to Z Disposal Guide to help sort waste.

RECYCLING BIN TIP!

Don't have a dull waste area! Spice up the area by creatively and effectively creating visuals listing what should go in the recycling, food scrap, and trash containers based on the items offered at the event.

No matter how the containers are displayed, ensure they are marked appropriately as "Recycling," "Compost," "Glass," or otherwise to ensure they look different from trash containers.

So, indoors or out, business or pleasure, event organizers can impress their guests and help the environment by thoughtfully adding multiple options for disposal in addition to offering trash receptacles. By including recycling receptacles at an event, partygoers do their part for the environment and contribute to the community's well-being. Recycling saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and significantly impacts job creation.

And don't forget: After the party is over, plan to take the waste to one of the many designated trash, recycling, and compost locations within the County.
