Do you have a child, family member or friend that would benefit from our adapted programs? Prince William County Parks and Recreation is proud to offer programs for individuals with disabilities, both youths and adults, and is committed to creating a community of choice for all residents with equal access to programs, classes, camps and activities.
Our adapted programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of children and adults with disabilities. These programs are run by qualified instructors to include Special Education Teachers, Behavior Therapists, and Recreation Therapists, who have experience working with people of all abilities. All programs are inclusive and open to everyone. All classes listed below are held at Birchdale Recreation Center.
Spooky Snacks
Join us on Wednesday, October 22 (6-7 pm) to cook up some spooky snacks together! Join us as we create Halloween-style dishes that will amaze your friends. Artful Minds
Participants will explore the therapeutic benefits of art through a variety of mediums. Each class will challenge participants to engage in self-reflection, express themselves through art, and explore new ideas. Dates available in November and December. Register here.
Art Expressions
Join us for a fun, creative, and social event! Art Expressions will encourage participants to explore different mediums of art while addressing physical, cognitive, and social skills. At the end of each session, participants will leave with an original art piece. November and December class dates available. Find your class session and register today.
Sensory Art
Come explore your senses with art. Our Sensory Art class will feature an art activity with a sensory component. We will explore the senses of sight, touch, smell, sound, and movement through engaging art activities. This class is designed for individuals with and without disabilities. Gather and Create
Join us on Wednesday, November 12 (6-7 pm) for a night filled with friendship and fun as we create wreaths in celebration of the season of giving. Each participant will leave with their own unique wreath. This class is specifically designed for people with disabilities. Click here to register. Holiday Cookie Decorating
Get ready for a sweet night of holiday fun as you decorate festive cookies! Kids (and adults!) can explore creativity with colorful icing, sprinkles, and decorations, turning simple cookies into edible art. Warm up with a cozy cup of hot cocoa while creating holiday cookie art. Expect to get a little messy in the name of holiday cheer! Register today to join us on Wednesday, December 10 (6-7 pm). Winter Camp in a Box
You can give your child a fun and exciting camp experience from the comfort and convenience of your own home. Our Camp in a Box comes packed with fun activities, supplies, and instructions to keep your child entertained for a few hours each day. Boxes come with enough materials for two children ($25) or four children ($40), plus tax, and instructions will have physical and cognitive modifications for each activity.
