Prince William County was awarded second place in the 2025 annual Digital Counties Survey for counties with populations between 250,000-499,999. The annual survey, sponsored by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties, recognizes counties that use technology to align with strategic priorities and improve service delivery. The county earned recognition for its continued focus on a comprehensive cybersecurity practice, leveraging its modern infrastructure, delivering 311 constituent services and its Digital Prince William broadband adoption initiative.
“Prince William County is honored to be recognized as a top digital county for a fifth consecutive year for delivering exceptional digital government experiences to our residents, businesses, workforce and visitors,” said County Executive Chris Shorter. “This recognition reflects our commitment to meeting residents where they are; offering services that are responsive, accessible and aligned with how our community prefers to engage with government.”
“DoIT is highly focused on collaborating closely across county departments and with the county’s leadership team to deliver community-centric solutions that enable the public to timely receive the services and information they need from our government in ways that are most convenient to them,” said Rob Mancini, the county’s Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work that our IT staff performs every day, the strong partnerships with other departments in our government, and the county’s steadfast commitment to delivering technology excellence, efficiency and value across our community.”
The county’s GovX (Government Experience) approach, which focuses on using technology to enhance public service delivery, was highlighted as a key driver of several award-winning initiatives, including:
DoIT’s comprehensive IT strategy, including a zero-trust architecture and a comprehensive government-wide risk assessment process, were also cited as contributing achievements. In addition, Digital Prince William was recognized for the third year in a row for its impact on expanding broadband access, adoption and digital literacy countywide.
In its 23rd year, the annual Digital Counties Survey Awards recognize the top 10 counties in five population size categories. Eleven counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia were recognized this year, placing Prince William among the top localities in a state that continues to lead the nation in digital innovation.
