Low Impact Fitness Programs to Fit Your Needs

Did you know that low-impact, moderate intensity exercise can be just as beneficial as high-impact, vigorous intensity exercise? Low-impact exercises like walking, cycling, swimming and aqua aerobics can be just as effective in helping to improve your cardiovascular fitness, as well as strengthen bones and muscles without the hard impact on your joints. This makes low-impact exercise a great option for everyone.  

If you’re looking to add low-impact exercise to your fitness routine check out some of the programs we offer below. If you’re looking for more one-on-one guidance, or a personalized workout program we also offer personal training at both Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center and Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. Adapted Aqua Zumba
Come join us for a dance party in the water! Our certified Aqua Zumba instructor will lead participants through a fun but challenging, water-based, body-toning workout. Each participant can move at their own pace while following along with the instructor and the music. This program is modified for individuals with special needs. Participants must be comfortable in the water and able to stand in 4 feet of water. Classes take place at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center and begin on November 17. Register today. Aquabilities
This popular specialty class at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center is designed expressly for those with arthritis and joint issues or anyone who needs to move slower in the comfortability of a warm water environment. Use the properties of water to increase range of motion, facilitate balance and strengthen the body in this class. Guarantee your spot in this personal trainer-led, small group personalized training class by registering today. Class options on Tuesdays and Thursdays. (No class on 11/23.) 

Pilates Reformer
The versatility of the Pilates Reformer has made it one of the most popular and effective pieces of equipment used in fitness today. From activating your deep core muscles, to learning proper body alignment and breathing, to working through post-injury rehabilitation, there is a fun and challenging class for all fitness levels. Our specialized small group fitness Reformer PLUS classes allow for a variety of other Pilates apparatuses to be used along with the Reformer during class including the Tower, jumpboards, Wunda Chairs, spine correctors and barrels. These challenging and invigorating classes will help safely build muscular endurance, core strength, balance, coordination and flexibility to transform your body. Tai Chi
Promote strength, balance, flexibility and stress management for a healthier you for a lifetime with Tai Chi. Join us at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center to explore its many benefits in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere that is challenging and enjoyable. Beginners and all levels are welcome! For those first-timers who want to see what Tai Chi is all about, you’re welcome to join the class at no cost on the last scheduled Thursday of each month. Class begins on November 2 so register today. (No class on 11/23.)

Teen Yoga
Calling all teens! Learn yoga poses while improving strength, balance and flexibility. This all-levels class is suitable for teens 12-16 years old. Classes take place on Thursdays from 4:45 to 5:45 pm, beginning November 2. No class on 11/23. Register here.
