WHAT’S FOR LUNCH?

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging offers nutritious meals to older adults through two programs: Meals on Wheels Program and Daily Congregate Meal Program at the Senior Center(s). All meals are freshly prepared on site by our resident chef and contain one-third your recommended daily intake. Menus are reviewed by certified dieticians and vary every day. We encourage those who can attend lunch at one of our senior centers to do so. Lunch is a great time to meet new people or visit with friends.

MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM

The Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to the homes of older persons who are homebound. Meals are prepared at the Senior Center(s) and are delivered by volunteers. Delivery occurs weekly with a combination of hot, shelf staple, and frozen meals. A minimum donation of $1.50 per meal is suggested. To inquire about qualifying for this program, contact the Prince William Area Agency on Aging at 703-792-6374.

LUNCH AT THE SENIOR CENTER

Lunch is provided Monday through Friday at both the Manassas and Woodbridge senior centers. These meals, part of the federally-funded congregate meal program, provide the opportunity for persons aged 60 and over to enjoy a fully balanced meal and socialize with other older adults in the community. A suggested donation of $1.50 per meal is accepted. Visit the Prince William Area Senior Centers page for directions and upcoming menus.

FARM MARKET FRESH-SENIOR & WIC FARMERS MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM

WHAT IS FARM MARKET FRESH?

Virginia’s Farm Market Fresh program (also called Senior & WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program [S/FMNP]) helps eligible seniors get fresh, tasty, and nutritious locally grown fruit, vegetables, and cut herbs. The program also supports local farmers and farmers’ markets in Virginia.

Who is eligible?

If all of the statements shown below are true, then you may be eligible to participate.

  • You are 60 years of age or older.
  • You are a resident of a locality that participates in the program.
  • You do not live in the same household, and you are not an immediate family member of the farmer who grows the produce.
  • You meet the program’s income requirements. You must certify your household income.

How does it work?

  • You must complete an application each year through your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) to determine if you are eligible to participate in the program.
  • Applications may also be filled out online by visiting FarmMarketFresh.org.
  • Application open until Sept 30th

What is provided?

  • If your application is approved, you will receive $50.00 benefit per eligible senior for that growing season.
  • Benefits can be spent down to the penny for each purchase. Participants may spend any amount needed at the farmer as long as they have that amount remaining in their benefit balance. Benefits cannot be exchanged for cash, and change is not permitted.
  • Certified retail farmers market vendors will accept benefits for fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables in-season, depending on the produce items available.
