Prince William County residents may drop off small amounts of construction debris (C&D), up to a regular-size pick-up truck load (2.5 cubic yards) at no cost.
This includes but is not limited to, decking, lumber or wood, wooden crates, carpet, vinyl flooring or aluminum siding, wire, sheetrock or drywall, glass, pipes, shingles, and other roofing material, and empty containers that have contained construction material.
Prince William County limits construction and demolition (C&D) waste disposal to 2.5 cubic yards in order to preserve landfill space, manage resources effectively, and ensure fairness to all residents. C&D debris is bulky and takes up a large amount of landfill capacity, so restricting the volume helps extend the landfill’s lifespan and keep operations sustainable.
This policy also ensures that the landfill primarily serves residential users rather than commercial contractors or large-scale projects. The County’s solid waste system and fees are designed for typical household disposal—not for large construction loads, which often require special handling and processing.
By enforcing this limit, the County encourages proper recycling or disposal of larger quantities of C&D materials at designated facilities equipped to manage them. Residents or contractors with more than 2.5 cubic yards of debris should use an alternative C&D disposal facility.
If a customer attempts to dispose of more than 2½ cubic yards of C&D waste, landfill staff will inform them of the volume limit. Customers are advised that they may reduce their load to meet the limit and return later to dispose of the remaining material. Staff can also provide a list of permitted private facilities in the area that accept larger volumes of C&D waste.
Yes, you may use a box truck; however, the C&D waste volume limit (2.5 Cubic yards, or equivalent to a pickup truck bed) applies to all customers, regardless of vehicle size.
