Mobile Library Events
- Books by Mail
Books by Mail is a free service offered by Prince William Public Libraries for Prince William County and City of Manassas residents who are physically unable to visit the library due to a temporary or permanent physical disability or impairment.
How It Works
- Through the U.S. Postal Service®, Prince William Public Libraries is able to mail free matter domestically for the blind and other eligible persons with impairments, including Large Print, Audio, and DVDs. These are the only type of materials that qualify under this program. Read more about this service at https://about.usps.com/publications/pub347/pub347_v03_revision_102015.htm.
- Delivery and return postage are paid by PWPL.
- PWPL provides a pre-addressed pouch for return shipping.
- Delivery takes up to one week.
What Can Be Borrowed
- Large print books.
- Audiobooks on CD.
- DVDs and Blu-rays.
- Books by Mail patrons may place up to 20 items on hold and check out up to 40 items at a time.

- Mobile Library
Mobile Library Services for Senior Groups
The Mobile Library brings library materials and services into a designated public area of senior living communities once a month. Outreach staff will deliver books and other materials inside retirement homes for older adults to check out, including standard and large-print books, DVDs, Playaways, and more. Please fill out the form below to be added to our monthly schedule.
Guidelines:
- The designated area should be spacious enough for a 15 ft. by 15 ft. Sprinter Van. We typically take up six parking spaces.
- The facility’s Activities Director should arrange furniture before the Mobile Library’s scheduled program visit time. The Activities Director should be aware of the scheduled visit time and not double-book events. A current schedule will be provided to your facility.
- The Activities Director or facility representative must accompany residents and remain with Community Outreach Services staff during our visit.
- The Activities Director should post the Mobile Library Service schedule and include it in the facility’s monthly publications so that residents will know the date and time of the Mobile Library’s visits.
Mobile Library for Homebound Delivery
Community Outreach Services offers homebound delivery of library materials through Meals on Wheels. Individuals must be receiving Meals on Wheels to participate in Homebound Library Delivery. To inquire about qualifying for Meals on Wheels, contact the Prince William Area Agency on Aging at 703-792-6374. For more information or assistance placing holds, please call 703-792-3777.
Mobile Library for Child Care Centers
COS staff provide early literacy story time visits to childcare centers in Prince William County and the City of Manassas. The Mobile Library also visits childcare centers to check out library materials. We do not currently offer service to in-home daycares.
Guidelines:
- Centers are expected to have their classes ready for their scheduled visits or notify COS by phone or email of cancellations at least an hour before the scheduled visit.
- Teachers must accompany and remain with their classes during Mobile Library visits.
- Story time and book checkout on the Mobile Library are engaging activities that support student learning and focus. We kindly ask that teachers supervise and actively participate to help make the experience even more enjoyable for the children.
- Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in termination of service.
Outreach and Mobile Library Special Events
Please complete the form below to request Community Outreach Services at your next event. COS requires at least 30 days’ notice. COS can do outreach events by setting up a table or bringing the Mobile Library.

Use the form below to request Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) community outreach services. We may be able to set up an information table, provide literature, and offer training on various services, resources, and programs.
Please submit your request at least 30 days prior to the date you will need library outreach services. Submission of this form does not guarantee that a PWPL employee will be available for your event. You will receive an email confirmation acknowledging your request.
Schools can reach out to their local library branch and schedule visits with them directly.
Note: At this time, we are not visiting in-home daycare centers.
