Mobile Library Services for Senior Groups

The Mobile Library brings library materials and services into a designated public area of senior living communities once a month. Outreach staff will deliver books and other materials inside retirement homes for older adults to check out, including standard and large-print books, DVDs, Playaways, and more. Please fill out the form below to be added to our monthly schedule.

Guidelines:

• The designated area should be spacious enough for a 15 ft. by 15 ft. Sprinter Van. We typically take up six parking spaces.
• The facility’s Activities Director should arrange furniture before the Mobile Library’s scheduled program visit time. The Activities Director should be aware of the scheduled visit time and not double-book events. A current schedule will be provided to your facility.
• The Activities Director or facility representative must accompany residents and remain with Community Outreach Services staff during our visit.
• The Activities Director should post the Mobile Library Service schedule and include it in the facility’s monthly publications so that residents will know the date and time of the Mobile Library’s visits.

Mobile Library for Homebound Delivery

Community Outreach Services offers homebound delivery of library materials through Meals on Wheels. Individuals must be receiving Meals on Wheels to participate in Homebound Library Delivery. To inquire about qualifying for Meals on Wheels, contact the Prince William Area Agency on Aging at 703-792-6374. For more information or assistance placing holds, please call 703-792-3777.

Mobile Library for Child Care Centers

COS staff provide early literacy story time visits to childcare centers in Prince William County and the City of Manassas. The Mobile Library also visits childcare centers to check out library materials. We do not currently offer service to in-home daycares.

Guidelines:

• Centers are expected to have their classes ready for their scheduled visits or notify COS by phone or email of cancellations at least an hour before the scheduled visit.
• Teachers must accompany and remain with their classes during Mobile Library visits.
• Story time and book checkout on the Mobile Library are engaging activities that support student learning and focus. We kindly ask that teachers supervise and actively participate to help make the experience even more enjoyable for the children.
• Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in termination of service.

Please complete the form below to request Community Outreach Services at your next event. COS requires at least 30 days’ notice. COS can do outreach events by setting up a table or bringing the Mobile Library.
